High Point North Carolina
Home Furnishings Capital,
Fantasia Barrino Birthplace!

High Point North Carolina has long been known as the Home Furnishings Capital of the WorldTM and a frequent shopping location for Martha Stewart. The city's landmark, World's Largest Chest of Drawers, built in 1926, calls attention to the city's place in the home furnishings industry. However, because of the popularity of American Idol, and in particular the success of the American Idol Season 3 winner, High Point is also known as the birthplace of Fantasia Barrino. Following her win on American Idol, a billboard at the city's entrance celebrated this High Point native rise's to stardom.

The city that was named after the highest point between Charlotte and Goldsboro on the North Carolina Railroad, biannually hosts an International Home Furnishings Market. High Point contains over 50 furniture stores, including the world's largest furniture store. The Bernice Bienstock Furniture Library contains the world's largest collection of books on the history of furniture. The High Point Museum & Historical Park contains information on High Point's history as the Home Furnishings Capital of the WorldTM and its importance as a textile and transportation center.

In addition to Fantasia Barrino, High Point boasts of having John Coltrane as a High Point citizen. An 8 foot bronze statue and a marker near his boyhood home honors this legendary jazz saxophonist who graduated from William Penn High School. Other world class musicians and artists perform in High Point because of the diligent efforts of the High Point Community Concert Association. Throughout each year, orchestras, soloists and ensembles perform in the Association's concert series.
